One of my best friends sent out an e-mail a while ago asking for help coming up with the cover for Vassar's literary magazine, Helicon, and so obviously I said I'd try to get something done (despite having a 20 page paper due on the same day)...it took me longer than I thought it would, for something sort of simple - I kept fiddling with things. Anyway, the directive from my friend was that it should look more like a piece of art, and less like a "cover" or an advertisement/poster, and since I'd been wanting to do something sort of art nouveau-y for a while I just went ahead and did it.

I had two designs, but this one ended up seeming the more elegant of the two...I was also sure from the beginning that either through patterns or color or accessories or something I wanted it to have a modern-ish feel, and not just be utterly Mucha-imitation (which I'm not really sure was super successful...). As for credit:

for the fish scale pattern
for the pose reference (who has some great poses, by the by), and the flowers in her hair were from some picture somewhere that I'm blanking on at the moment! Anyway, enjoy!
